Ted Simroe 7'-0" 4wt  3/2  3oz Model 342-4
    SOLD

A perfect Brookie rod. Astounding performance from this magnificent 3-piece classic fly rod. Clean, simple beauty, easy casting characteristics from the Master Rod Builder in the Leonard light rod tradition. It is a very nice all around 4wt. It flexes well into the butt and has fine tips. With the two ferrules it is a blend of medium progressive and moderate parabolic. Black guides, Nickel Silver hardware and ferrules with a blued Cap & Ring reel seat. The whole rod seems to work all the time, no matter how much line you have out. But the fine tips allow you to work in very close. The flexible butt gives you some tippet shock protection, the ability to fight larger fish from the butt rather than the tips, and yet small fish are still a joy to play. Cast a perfect tight loop every time without effort, quite impressive lightly used. Original cloth bag. Brass capped Bronzed Aluminum case. Said to be suggestive of the Leonard model 48  Brand New it sells for  $1650.00

SOLD

7’6” Phillipson  Premium  2/2  5wt HEH 3 3/4oz (4 ¼ oz)Built 1952     SOLD

Phillipson Premium ~ 7’-6” ~ 2/3 ~ 3 3/4oz in catalog  (4 ¼ oz) on scale with 2 original tips, 3rd tip added 5wt. HEH ~  1952   This post WW-II Rocky Mountain classic was Phillipson's best rod and sold for $75.00 in the late 40‘s early 50‘s. The rod features a Carmel-colored cane with swelled butt, 3 x 3 spiral nodes, black silk wraps tipped gold/black and a nice original varnish finish.

Rod on top

One tip section has 3 small invisible wraps, near to the male ferrule, shown in the photos. This is the tip I fished most of the time, no problems every arose through use. The other tip shows some work on the ferrule area and may have a re-wrap after a reset, looks like a pin was added. Smooth & tight fitting original N/S ferrules give a 'pop' when separated. I had a lighter 3rd tip made for casting a 4wt line (4.13oz), widens the possibilities when using the rod, very cool addition to this classic Colorado rod.  A Phillipson elliptical hammer style full wells cork grip, 6 ½“ long, also called the Hammer Handle grip. Phillipson made a custom lightweight aluminum, anodized black down locking reel seat with a 2-point “no rock“ reel foot support‘ some black finish missing. The following is inked on the rod in black script: Phillipson Premium on one flat &, 7 ½’-3 ¾  – HEH on the opposite flat. The rod has no HK, NS winding check. Perfection chrome stripper & tip tops. Phillipson made there ferrules from one piece solid hard-drawn nickel silver. Comes with a replacement bag and the Phillipson labeled tube 85%.     SOLD

Featherweight by Heddon ~ 7.5' ~ 2/2 ~ 0 3/4F
#13 Lucky Angler  3.7 oz. ~ 4wt
 $425   Trades considered

Solid project rod for a Heddon fan who wants to finish a restoration of a Classic or just fish it “as is” The rod came to me with an original butt and tip full length, sound and all there. This rod was produced between 1941 & 1943 the #13 Lucky Angler did not survive WWII.

In 1933 when Heddon began to fit all there rods with the Heddon Half-Wells style grip the only exception was the model #10 and #13. The varnish is stable, but not perfect a light overcoat was added in the past. The wraps on the Butt section are replaced on the agate stripper, the guide and ferrule, leaving the
gray silk with black tipping on the exposed winding check as original.

The Heddon factory tip section has a few original wraps along with some replacement wraps from the past. A guide was just completed keeping the original rod tip fishable “as is“. A second tip has been added and is not the same taper and the ferrule doesn’t match the original.  Its the bottom tip in the photo below and the wraps on this tip match the new wraps on the butt section.

A green down locking pyralin Heddon patented reel seat and a teardrop grip. Bright n/s hardware and the 3/4F ferrules as expected. The reel seats used on the #13 varied widely over the years, sometimes featuring the lowest quality seat in stock. I'm a little surprised to find the pyralin downlocker on this rod, it takes all my reel feet well.

The rod is full length and came to me a a 2/1 as you can see its been fished over the years and is fundamentally straight, sound and all there. The varnish is stable and a light overcoat has been rubbed out in its past. Spiral Heddon inked signature remains. Original HK intact and has the original agate stripper guide. It cast  a #4 or 5 wt line. You can see the gray silk with black tipping on the exposed winding check of bright NS covered by the varnish overcoat and the bright NS, rolled-welt ferrules, the fit requires wax to stay snug.

The new tip is not a match of the original tips taper. In making the new tip I wanted to have something a bit different than the original for variety, it cast a bit differently. So the taper design is smaller coming out of the ferrule and as it reaches the tip it becomes thicker so that the tip doesn't collapse as it turns over the line. With the swell in the butt section the new tip works very nicely.
So there is still some work you could do on this one but you can fish it till you get around to it. No tube, replacement bag. The 5 1/4" cork grip is showing begining signs of ridging.
I like this rod with a DT4 silk & DT4F Sylk (Cortland 444) & also Teeny WF4F (First Cast).

The standard 3-day inspection policy,  board rules apply, shipping and insurance $20 in USA . If interested, please contact me through the yuku pm (message button) I will take payment by USPS Money Order,  Personal Check, PayPal OK.

8’-6”   Heddon Trade Rod ~ Arntz Supreme ~ 3/2  2F
Restored 2008
             $ 325.00

Price  Reduced           $ 285
In over 25 years I have only located  one other copy of a Trade Rod from Adolph Arntz. This is his top model and I would guess looking at the cane that it matches the #17. There are a few spots on the cane and the reel seat hardware was left as found and shows use.  We know Adolph was buying rods in the 1930’s from Heddon, but this rod may  have been a  40’s rod. Not original bag no tube. The tips on this one  are matching replacement tips that have been used just a few times. You could fish this rod with a DT4 or 5 and even go to a WF 6 depending on the river and on the wind. This one will fish close very well.  The cork was cleaned, had a few rough spots, I haven’t sanded it but intended to some day.  I striped it and sent it out and had it re wrapped in maroon and dipped. It has new snake guides and striping guide as well.
